I first met Babik in 1967 in Paris, France. He was 23 and was sort of started by M.Charles Delaunay, the publisher of Jazz Hot magazine and the son of Robert and Sonia Delaunay, world famous artists. I got to know Babik very well and always saw him on my subsequent 8 trips to Paris. We had dinner one night at Restaurant Lucas and after dinner he gave me Django's Epiphone guitar that Django played with Duke Ellington. In subsequent years I sent Babik all the records I could find of George Benson; a great favorite of his. I never knew Django, but knew his wife, Naguine and his brother Joseph (Nin-Nin} and a number of the members of the Quintet Du Hot Club De France, including, Stephane Grappelli, Louis Vola, Hubert Rostaing, Emmanuel Sodieux and Pierre Fouad. Babik didn't speak Englis, but the little French I speak was a big help. After we left the Restaurant, we went to his car and there was a parking ticket on the windshield, Babik popped it off and said it was his and that he always left it on his windshield so the police thought it had been ticketed!!
