|I did a summer session at Berklee in 1983. Deano was my piano coach. Somehow I managed to come down with a nasty chest cold one week, and I sent him a note to explain that I'd have to miss a lesson because I was "stuck up in my dorm room with Bronchitis."
I received a note back from him, on paper with a piano sketched on it. He wrote, "Bronchitis!?! What an odd name for a chick. Is she Greek?"
I kept that note and framed it, and today it's hanging in my house, the old Maybeck Recital Hall in Berkeley, California where Concord recorded it's "Live at Maybeck Series." Deano never played here, but he lives on, in a frame on the wall here.
