Todd Jenkins makes the mistake that many writers do in assessing Prestige. In the later days of the Friday afternoon jam session recordings the "no rehearsal" tag can be applied, but in the early days many of the groups--Getz, Ammons & Stitt, Sims, Moody, Billy Taylor, Kai Winding, Bennie Green etc.--were working groups who had the repertory down from playing it in clubs. The Modern Jazz Quartet was in this category; and Sonny Rollins with the MJQ had a rehearsal before the date. There were examples of what he mentions before the "jam session" period but I don't feel the music suffered, even then, as much as he implies.
