Walter Bishop 1 of 1
Paul Robertz March 23, 99
If you haven't heard it yet, get "In Walked Thelonious" on the Mapleshade label. This solo piano album conveys the spirit of Monk and an intensity which can be explained only by Bishop's belief that Monk himself was visiting him and playing through his hands. Walter doesn't do Monk impersonations, but plays Monk compositions as if the composer/taskmaster would berate him for fluffing notes, using wrong changes, or simply blowing over chord changes. A masterpiece!
