Jimmy Skidmore 1 of 6

Jimmy Skidmore was a terrific tenor player. I remember vividly hearing him play with a bunch of local musicians at the Bedford Jazz Club in the early 50's. We rented a nice Dance Hall called the Dujon (on Bedford High Street) for the occasion. There was a fairly large group of modern jazz fans in Bedford at that time and a good crowd were on hand to hear Jimmy play. He was a fabulous jazzman and a very personable guy. He did in fact pave the way for many other Jazz luminaries such as Ronnie Scott, Johnny Dankworth et al to play in Bedford.
