Moondog 1 of 4

I spoke briefly to Moondog on Sixth Avenue many years ago, but knew nothing of his life until now. I always wondered what his story was and what became of him, so thank you for this biography. I never even knew his real name until seeing it in a November 1969 "Scenes" magazine ad for his album "Moondog" (Columbia Records).

An immobile Viking in the middle of Manhattan, Moondog was an astonishing sight. At under 5'2", I had an impression of enormous height and bulk under his outlandish garb. (How tall *was* he?) I was frankly terrified of Moondog until I mustered the courage to say hello. I'll always be glad I did.
