Gallacher Ken Gallacher was best known in his native Scotland as a distinguished sports writer for a number of national newspapers, but he was equally familiar in jazz circles as a major fan and perceptive critic of traditional and mainstream jazz.
He was a familiar figure at gigs and festivals. He acted as an informal advisor to the Nairn Jazz Festival, and wrote about jazz whenever the opportunity prevented itself. Indeed, his final move to The Herald (formerly the Glasgow Herald) as chief sports writer was partly contingent on being offered a jazz column in the paper as well.
Ken made friends with many musicians on both sides of the Atlantic, and his familiar presence on the Scottish jazz scene will be missed.
