Although Dudley Moore's main reputation was made as a comedian and comic actor, he was also a highly accompslihed pianist in both jazz and classical idioms. He learne piano and then organ as a child, and won scholarships to the Guildhall School of Music in London and Magdalen College in Oxford, where he graduated in 1958. He toured Britain and the United States with the Vic Lewis band in the late 1950s, and was a member of the John Dankworth band for a time. He led his own highly regarded jazz trio, and continued to perform in both jazz and classical settings throughout his life.
