Vernon Welsh, co-founded Left Bank Jazz SocietyCopyright © 2002
Vernon L. Welsh was the founder of the Left Bank Jazz Society in Baltimore. He recorded many of the performances given by visiting artists to the Society, a treasure trove which has recently begun to be made available through CD releases by producer Joel Dorn.
Welsh and Benny Kearse (d. 1999) formed the Left Bank Jazz Society in 1964. The society featured both local artists and visiting stars to the Famous Ballroom, where he was later manager. He preserved about 800 performances on reel-to-reel tape. He acted as MC at many of the performances.
JJA members are invited to submit a full obituary or appreciation.
