Sorry for the late notice, folks, but if you're in CHicago tomorrow, Sunday,
please join the JJA members for dim sum at the Phoenix Restaurant, 2131 s.
Archer Ave. (in Chinatown) from 10 a.m. to about 11:30 -- we've been here before
and the food is fine, among those expected are Ashley Kahn (Kind of Blue, Love
Supreme), Marc PoKempner (photojournalist extraordinaire), Lauren Deutsch
(artistic photog, exec director of the Jazz Institute of Chicago), Art Lange (ex
pres of the JJA), Alan Goldsher (author of Hard Bop Academy and 2 jazz-related
novels), Neil Tesser (mostly broadcasting these days), Jim DeJong (JJA
discretionary award winner), Marguerite Horberg (HotHouse music/cultural club),
Kevin Lynch (Madison), Alain Drouet (WNUR-FM), Michael Jackson (photog/writer, DB,
etc.), Rahsaan Clark (Chgo Jazz Fest stage manager as well as freelance
writer), Nami (emerging photog), Donald Elfman (cd producer at large), Janis
Lane-Ewart (Minneapolis public radio) . . .
there's a competing brunch at the Jazz Record Mart, with music, where John
Litweiler, Phil Elwood and some others intend to be -- same time, N. Wabash --
others, such as Kevin Whitehead, send regrets but are on deadline reviewing the
fest.
if you can't make the dim sum, find the JJA at the Jazz Fest on the Jackson
Street stage, 12:30 on . . . .climax of the evening is the McCoy Tyner big
band.
