All members --
here's the news you've been waiting for (maybe): The voting booth for the 8th
Annual Jazz Journalists Association Jazz Awards is now open, at
www.Jazzhouse.org. You'll see links on the entrance page to the finalist ballot, and to
view the nominations for Photo of the Year.
Please note -- you may vote ONCE, provided you are a full member of the JJA;
support members (you know who you are, and so do we) do not have a vote. The
deadline for voting is May 12, 6 p.m. You must sign your ballot for security
purposes only -- there will be no correlation of votes cast and the names of the
voters, but this will let us make sure no one votes twice. If you try to vote
and find that you are rejected because someone else has voted in your name,
contact hman at jazzhouse.org and/or whit at jazzhouse.org immediately.
The Jazz Awards are being celebrated at B.B. King's Blues Club and Grill in
NYC on June 15 from 4 to 7 p.m., and at the Jazz Bakery in Los Angeles on June
21 from 7 to 10 p.m. Tickets for these events may be bought at
www.JazzJournalistsAwards.com. Tickets cost JJA members $40 apiece for the New York event,
$25 apiece for the LA event -- $150 and $75, respectively, for the general
public. The Jazz Awards are a benefit for the Jazz Foundation of America's
Musicians Emergency Fund and the JJA's jazz and journalism education programs.
Details about the entertainment at both events will be sent forth soon.
Thanks for your participations, folks -- it's a fine ballot, representing
real excellence in EVERY category. And with fundraising efforts going well, a
cool lineup of performers, guest hosts and presenters, this promises to be a
banner year for the Jazz Awards (sm).
all best, Howard
