On March 22, from 8 to 11 p.m., Eastern, all JJA members are invited to
participate in an online forum to discuss the topic of jazz and race.
Unlike previous JJA online forums, this will be a members-only
discussion and there will be no invited panelists. Instead, all members
will be able to post their thoughts and respond to others. The forum
will be co-moderated by JJA president Howard Mandel, myself and
(schedule permitting) JJA vice-president Willard Jenkins.
By now, hopefully, you will have seen Willard's JazzNotes column "Is
Racism Still An Issue In Jazz?" and its closing request for further
discussion. The online forum will provide an opportunity to pursue the
issues he addresses and develop some positive actions that our
association could pursue.
To participate, all you need to do is log on to www.jazzhouse.org on
March 22 between 8 and 11 p.m. Eastern and follow the link to the
forum. High-speed access is not necessary to participate. Complete
instructions and a members-only password will be e-mailed to you prior
to March 22.
