Note to all JJA Members and interested parties who will be in Chicago this week (August 31 - September 4): The JJA will be co-sponsoring (along with the Mayor's Office of Special Events) a free panel discussion on "The Legacy of King Oliver" at the Chicago Cultural Center (78 E. Washington), today, August 31 at 5 pm. The moderator will be former JJA president Art Lange, and on the panel will be saxophonist Franz Jackson, trumpeter Orbert Davis, and jazz historians Bob Koester and Dr. Richard Wang. This discussion is in anticipation of the performance in Grant Park on Sunday evening (5 pm) by Le Petit Jazzband, from France, "Homage to King Oliver" on the 120th anniversary of his birth.

Also, as usual, the JJA will host an informal dim sum breakfast and gabfest at Phoenix (2131 S. Archer) beginning at 10 am on Sunday, September 4. All JJA members, music industry friends, and otherwise friendly folk are invited. To confirm your attendance or to get last-minute info, grab on to Art Lange or Howard Mandel in the park during the Jazz Fest on Friday or Saturday. See you in Grant Park.
