Hey all -- 

I've received an invitation from vocalist Lindsay Muir, co-director of the 
Litchfield Jazz Festival, to pass on to everyone: this event in Goshen, CT Aug. 
4- 6 features Cyrus Chestnut Trio, Dionne Warwick, Robert Glasper, Terell 
Stafford Quintet, Trio Da Paz, Carol Sloane, Lee Konitz, Eddie Palmieri, Eddie 
Marshall, Dena DeRose, Bill Charlap & Renee Rosnes,  John Scofield's trio, James 
Moody's Quartet and Dr. John, and Lindsay will be happy to comp JJA members 
who are interested in attending -- call her at  (860) 567-4162 to take advantage 
of the offer. 

Of course it's unlikely each of you, spread out all over, will make it, but 
it's a good time to be reminded that fests are going on everywhere, and offer 
lots of opportunities for coverage. The sheer number of jazz fests in America, 
and the thousands upon thousands of people they attract, are one of the 
biggest stories of jazz's viability. The JJA will be out in force not just at 
Litchfield, but at Newport, in Chicago and Detroit (we're running panel discussions 
throughout the Motor City's fest), in Tanglewood and beyond. Guelph in early 
Sept., Monterey soon after --
