Jazz Journalists Association "Jazz Matters" panels expand to Baruch College
(Oct. 17, 12:45 - 2:15 p.m.), resume at New School Jazz (Oct. 18, 6 - 8 p.m.)
"The Business of Jazz" and "Writers and Singers Town Hall Meeting" convene
artists, managers, club owners, record company representatives, journalists, and
interested jazz fans in moderated discussion, free of charge
NEW YORK CITY: The Jazz Journalists Association, a 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit
organization of some 400 writers, broadcasters, photographers and new media
workers in jazz, co-presents two panel discussions this month, "The Business of
Jazz" at Baruch College, 3rd floor meeting room at the school's "vertical
campus," 24th and Lexington Ave., on Tuesday, Oct. 17, from 12:45 to 2:15 p.m.,
and "Writers and Singers Town Hall Meeting," at the New School Jazz fifth floor
performance center, 55 W. 13th St., on Wednesday, Oct. 17 from 6 to 8 p.m.
Both panels are free and open to the public.
Panelists discussing "The Business of Jazz" are James Browne (Sweet Rhythm
music club, Sirius Satellite Radio); Karen Kennedy (principle of 24Seven Artists
Management), Jason Lindner (pianist--composer-bandleader-recordng artist) and
Doug Yoel, president of Now Forward Music, US marketing and management of
Dreyfus Records.
Panelists addressing the partipation-welcome town forum of writers and
vocalists co-hosted by the Jazz Journalists Association, the New School and the Jazz
Vocal Coalition (www.jzvoc.org) include: E.J. Decker, president, JZVOC/NY; Sy
Johnson, vocalist-arranger-composer-journalist; singer-educator-music
therapist Lisa Sokolov; author-journalist Will Friedwald (New York Sun).
