The Newport Jazz Festival® 50th Anniversary Tour is just one of many festivities marking the event that brought this uniquely American musical form to millions of people, and forever changed the cultural landscape of this country.
Jeremy Pelt has three cds as a leader and appears on over two dozen recordings as a sideman, including Wayne Shorter's 2003 Grammy winning disc "Alegria". Pelt has signed a multi-cd contract with MaxJazz and just released "Close To My Heart" his debut for the label which is a ballads disc featuring strings (http://maxjazz.com/pelt/card/pelt.html). The disc debuted at # 30 on the US JazzWeek charts. In seven weeks it climbed to the # 6 position and continues to be extremely well received by audiences and critics alike.
Now on tour as a member of the 50th Anniversary of Newport Jazz Festival Tour, Jeremy and his band will be available for concerts, Performing Arts Centers, clubs, & workshops in 2004-2005. They will continue to celebrate the release of his current disc, "Close To My Heart" on the MaxJazz label.
On his day off from the Newport Jazz Tour, Jeremy returned to New York City to debut as a leader at The Blue Note Jazz Club. The inclement weather did not deter the audience on March 8, 2004 and Pelt enjoyed a SOLD-OUT engagement featuring his group Creation. The band features an eclectic mix of instruments such as trumpet, alto sax/bass clarinet, guitar, vibraphone, bass, and drums. These instruments come together to produce a unique texture of music that caters to the band’s composer, Jeremy Pelt. Creation has many influences, including the music of late 60’s/early 70’s Miles, Weather Report, Ornette Coleman, Cream, Jimi Hendrix, and Radiohead to name some. The result of all those influences produces one distinctive and personal sound. Creation is looking to push the envelope of music itself, with its mixture of Jazz, Fusion, and straight-up Rock and Roll. The members of Creation are Jeremy Pelt- trumpet, leader, Myron Walden- alto sax/bass clarinet, Mike Moreno- guitar, Warren Wolf- vibraphone, Derek Nievergelt- bass, and Tommy Crane- Drums.
