A TRIBUTE TO DORIS DAY

AT PRESTIGIOUS DAKOTA JAZZ CLUB



MINNEAPOLIS, October 1, 2004 - On Sunday, October 17, 2004, Minnesota's premier jazz venue, the Dakota Jazz Club and Restaurant, will present renowned vocalist Connie Olson in "A Tribute to Doris Day."  Olson will perform songs from her new CD Daydreaming, which features songs from Doris Day's classic 1964 collaboration with conductor/pianist Andre Previn.  Joining Connie on the Dakota stage will be the Wolverines Trio - pianist Rick Carlson, guitarist Cliff Wittstruck, bassist Keith Boyles, and drummer Jendeen Forberg.

Connie's new CD, Daydreaming, was produced with keyboardist Benny Weinbeck in Minneapolis.  Connie currently is working on a CD project with Beach Boys keyboardist Tim Bonhomme in Los Angeles.



Originally from Minneapolis, Minnesota, Connie Olson began her career as a lead singer in many of the area's top local bands, performing various styles of music, including rock 'n' roll, rhythm and blues, and jazz.  In the 1980s, she moved to Los Angeles, where she attended the Dick Grove School of Music and worked in many of LA's top venues, including the Disneyland Hotel, the Beverly Wilshire Hotel, and the Ritz Carlton Hotels.

 

Connie has performed in countless clubs and concert halls around the globe with many of the world's top musicians, including the Bill Molenhof Group, the Peter Duchin Big Band, and the Peter Graves Orchestra, as well as musicians from the Manhattan Transfer, the Brian Setzer Orchestra, and the bands of Prince and Madonna.

Connie has also been in demand as a clinician at institutions such as the Manhattan School of Music.  During the fall of 2002, she toured US colleges and music schools with acclaimed German vibraphonist Bill Molenhof.

Her voice has been heard on countless radio and TV commercials as well as on the theme song for the TV series "The Action Family."  She's been featured as both a lead and background vocalist on releases by the Musicland and K-Tel Corporations and on Prince's debut album.  Connie was recently featured on Ultrasound, the newest CD by Matt "Dr." Fink, former keyboardist for Prince's back-up band, the Revolution
