"no mo"

I swear it is not my intention to make a "career" out of memorializing jazzers with lunch time verse, but-wrinkles and all, they come when they come

this is called "no moe"
(for billy higgins) fyi.

the erstwhile scribbler

Reuben Jackson

"no moe"

your hands
rise and fall
like empires
above
waiting drums

each head
a trampoline
for savvy sticks
sketching a
hip heartbeat

or brush
strokes
so soft
they barely
wrinkle
the air

smile,
smiling billy
its allright

you are no
sentimental
minstrel show

no sepia
daguerreotype
ensconced
in someone's locket

who could
remain
stoic
as Coolidge
in the midst
of constant
beauty
anyway?
